My team and I have been providing care for people who have mental illness in my clinic for 7 years! I put my patients and my team first. I am humbled to be able to care for people in their darkest and most vulnerable moments and to be supported by the most talented staff whom I have ever worked with (Austin, Kaleigh, Regina, and Cindee). My caring spirit comes from my humble beginnings in life and dedication to the health care of the community. I am thankful for all the hands that raised me up along my journey. Now, there’s nothing more that I enjoy than being able to be a part of people’s recovery journeys.
I’ve worked in health care for over 20 years which includes over 10 years of prescribing psychotropic medication. I spent the first 8 years of my career as a registered nurse on medical/surgical and psychiatric units. I have spent the past 12 years as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and I have spent the past 6 years as a preceptor for dozens of Nurse Practitioner students. I love working with students because they bring new knowledge to the table and they have really great questions which challenge my thinking. I bring my experience from practicing in a variety of settings to each encounter. Furthermore, I exceed educational certification requirements by constantly pushing myself to seek new knowledge to help my patients. In particular, I have specialized training in the use of neuropsychiatric testing for dementia, psychotherapeutic ketamine, EMDR, TRM, and integrative psychiatry. I think it’s pretty cool that once I finish my EMDR certification I will be the only prescriber in San Antonio who is certified in EMDR! I prescribe using “older” medications and “newer” medications. I have a very large toolbox! But less is still more! I was “raised” to know how to navigate and utilize evidence-based practice guidelines but also to think outside the box.
My staff and I do our best to exhaust every method to try to obtain the medications that patients need whether it includes prior authorizations, Patient Assistance Programs, or other methods. “Nurses are known year after year as the most trusted professionals per Gallup”. That’s a pretty awesome reputation and I do my best to emulate it in my practice. My caring spirit for my patients is evident in each patient encounter. Professionally, I do quite a bit of networking to do my part to continue to move our profession forward and also to gain new knowledge. Personally, I’m a (partially Spanish bilingual) Catholic, San Antonio native. I was raised by a Vietnam Veteran and a stay-at-home mom. I have a large immediate family in addition to two dogs, one parakeet, two axolotls, two glow fish, and one cat. My latest venture is to try to get Gloria (my 12 yo mini Schnauzer mix) trained as a therapy dog.
I share information about myself as is relevant to the patient encounter when patients ask. Otherwise, I like to think of myself as a cultural, sexual, gender, religious, spiritual, etc. blank slate. I love it when patients tell me that they feel like I understand them. I love to laugh and smile with my patients as much as I can. I also love (and sometimes cry) when patients tell me they wished they had sought treatment earlier.
My journey to get to where I am has been a long one, but worth the effort. My PhD (2009) is in Clinical Nursing Research with an emphasis in Intimate Partner Violence and Alcohol and other Drug Abuse. I received 5 years of federal funding and support to conduct my research, support my education, and to travel around the country so that I could learn about how mental health care is provided across the nation. It is exciting to be able to connect with SAMHSA fellows/mental health experts across the country at anytime!

My goal when pursuing my master’s degree in nursing centered around gaining more knowledge about psychiatry, and how to appropriately provide care with an emphasis on treating people struggling to overcome and live with mental illness. In that time, I had the opportunity to learn much more than what I could read out of textbooks and hear in lectures. I’ve worked in health care for eight years and spent the last five years as a registered nurse on various psychiatric and behavioral health units. While on this journey, I have had the opportunity to work in various inpatient and outpatient care settings with dozens of diagnoses, and with people ranging from 3- to 98-years young across the US. I believe that mental wellness is just one of many aspects of health that people should achieve. Just as we seek care for possible or actual disturbances in the functioning of other organs in the human body such as the heart or lungs, the brain is also an important organ that cannot be ignored. My career and my studies taught me about the importance of patience, showing genuine compassion, and how to appreciate the many little blessings that we have in our lives.
Many of the patients that we care for here at Alamo Elite Wellness may be familiar with me from my time as a student learning under Christina’s guidance. I want to take the time to greet you and reintroduce myself as a Nurse Practitioner! As a Dallas native, I’m able to drive down to San Antonio occasionally but I will be seeing my patients primarily via telehealth to promote care accessibility. I’m grateful for the opportunity to treat and improve the mental health for people that live in San Antonio and the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. I love to build rapport and I aim to be a comfort for my patients. I will utilize the knowledge that I’ve gained, as well as enthusiasm to learn more everyday as I work with you to evaluate your health care needs and prescribe psychotropic medication appropriate for treatment.
My professional goal is to continue my education by pursuing a doctorate in nursing practice with a focus on stigmas related to mental illness. I was raised by a single mom as the oldest of four children, and I have been blessed with a large extended family with seemingly endless aunties, uncles, and cousins. I enjoy traveling, spending time with my family and friends, and volunteering for various organizations and community projects. As an advanced practice registered nurse, I continue to admire all the staff that make up AEW and I’m so excited to be a part of such an amazing team!

I have been going to her for over a year , I have gone to other drs and they are nothing like her at all , she is amazing! She is the only Dr I trust and I see myself continuing my treatment with her as long as I can ! Her front desk staff Connie and Kaylee are super sweet and care about patients as well! Overall great office !!!”
“I’ve had a great patient experience with Alamo elite wellness. I haven’t had any of the issues with the desk staff that the other reviews have stated. Christina Wei listens and includes you in her treatment plan. I’ve had to call back after a few appointments because of medication side effects and she or her office staff have called me back within a business day to decide what to do. They go above and beyond for their patients. I’ve seen several medication prescribers and she’s one of the best. I highly recommend her.”
“Dr. Christina listens to you, she is smart and kind. I am so thankful I researched and decided on using her services. Her front office is excellent. My first visit I had a hard time getting into the patient portal due to me not remembering my password and they were very helpful. My medical condition for medication is somewhat out of the normal range and she had gone the extra mile to make sure I receive exactly what will work best for me. I highly recommend her. I think anyone who uses her services will be very happy with her!”
Christina is an amazing listener and a great therapist. The environment is friendly, relaxing and always receptive and responsive. I would absolutely recommend visiting this clinic for the start on a road to a healthy recovery.
